When you've decided that you need a free web counter service for your commercial or personal website, your obvious next step is to figure out which counter will be best for your needs. That's not an easy task, to be honest, because every free counter supplier boasts that they're the best, but who really has the system that will best serve your needs?

Well, we could say RiteCounter is awesome, and we could even throw you some testimonials to back up that claim, but would it really be honest if we didn't also mention the good and bad of the competition?

So in an effort to be honest and open and totally frank with our users, we've compiled a list of some of the most popular web counters, and taken a quick look at which of them compares well to our own.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad |
| Extreme Tracker | Yes | No | No |

By all accounts, Extreme Trackers is a decent service, but the absence of a hit counter that you can easily see does prevent many casual users from getting the most out of their site.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad |
| NedStat | Yes | No | No |

Like Extreme Tracker, NedStat offers plenty of stats, but they too don't give you an actual easy-to-see image that displays the hit count. Similarly, the stats included, while being a step up from Extreme Tracker, aren't exactly all-inclusive.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad |
| SiteGadgets | None | Yes | None |

Once again, a graphic counter stops short of supplying real time stats that can help your website. Some might call this a "vanity counter' service, because it doesn't really tell you anything and is really only useful to say "look how popular my page is!'
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad |
| Statcounter | Yes | Optional | None |

This is a better option, including both stats and a graphic hit counter, and we like the fact that the invisible counter is optional, but Statcounter still falls short of the substantial line-up of stats and demographics and server tools supplied by RiteCounter.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad |
| CQ Counter | Yes | No | None |
| Stats You | Yes | No | None |

Both CQ Counter and Stats4You fit into the 'we have stats, but we won't let people see' category, which is fine if you want that, but not real good if you'd like to not have to login to a server to see how your page is doing.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad |
| Webstat.Com | Loads | No | Button |

This service has some great stats and web tools for you, but they insist on you putting an ad for them on every page. Not a great look for a corporate website.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad | |
| Admo.net | No | Yes | None | |
| ByteCenter | None | Yes | None | 8/10 |

Another pair of vanity counters with absolutely no stats to speak of, the best we can say for Admo.net and ByteCenter is that they do a very small job pretty well.
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad | |
| SiteTracker | Many | No | 468x60 | 7/10 |

Say what you will about our objectivity, but SiteTracker is a great service that would make anyone proud... if it weren't for the HUGE 468x60 banner ad they make you run on your page. Forget that!
| Title | Stats | Hits Shown | Ad | |
| Free Stats | Yes | No | 400x40 | 5/10 |

Less stats than Site Tracker, but a marginally smaller banner ad that they insist you put on your pages. I don't know how a professional company is expected to look professional with a 400x40 ad on their pages, but there it is.
